From AskArt:

“Watercolorist, painter, and educator. George Booth Root, III, was born at his grandfather's ranch in Oakland, California. In 1915 his mother, Ruth Godfrey Root, and step-father, Walter Post, and George moved to Nevada. There his mother changed his surname to Post. As an adult he used George Booth Root Post. He showed an interest in drawing at age five. He started formal art classes in high school. His art instructor saw that he had considerable natural talent and George received a scholarship. He began his two and one half year education at the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco in 1924. There he was introduced to painting en plein air.

In 1927 George left the school and sought other employment. Mainly because he needed money. After working numerous menial labor jobs which gave him no satisfaction, he began wanting to find employment where he could use his talent. During this restless period of time, he met Stanley Wood and admired Stanley's paintings. These paintings sparked his interest in watercolor. In 1930 he met and married Lou Rusk MacLean. They had a daughter, Shelley, but they divorced several years later.

In the 1940s he began teaching art. In 1949, he began teaching at the Brandt - Dike Summer School of Painting. He retired from teaching and painting in 1988. George resided in the city of San Francisco, painting occasionally, until his death in 1997. On March 26 he died of pneumonia. He was 91,”

Painting has been mounted on board. Toning to the paper.
